I got every thing off of a 2000 G350 Van rear diff from the local drive line place. for $100.00. Cut mounting brackets off axle tubes and made new ones. Rebuilt the calipers and every thing installed without a problem. Rotors are still 8X6.5 on the Van. Larry

Larry, did the calipers have parking brakes? Or did you use a driveline brake? Or did you not worry about them? I am wanting to do a disc conversion, but do not want to use the eldorado calipers, and am not getting far on a driveline brake for 4x4. Thanks for the input.

bud48fla, do you have any picts of your set up? Did you make the brackets from scratch or did you have some one machine them for you?

Thanks for the quick reply Larry. I am also wondering about the brackets as well. Do you have a template that you created or did you just make them without. Just asking, so we don't have to re-invent the wheel (bracket) since you already have it working...
Thanks for the info on these. I will be looking for the prices on the calipers/used axle.
Mark

A freind of mine has a shop at his house. He took one of the backing plates home with him, with the dimension of the housing (whitch is smaller than the rear in the Van) and made them.

Is it possible to get a picture of the brackets, even from the back side would be good. Thanks.

Interesting link, but I gotta ask why? That costs more than a bolt on kit and took many many hours of fab work.
Am I missing something?

The hardest part of the whole project is making the brackets to weld on to and removal of the old brackets. We installed and was driving the truck about four hour's later. It really has to do with if you know someone with a machine shop or some one reasonable and have every thing together and thought out when you start the job. The only thing I purchased was Caliper rebuild kits and a spring kit for the E-brake from Advance Auto Parts to get the one set of springs to match the ones already on the E-brakes, that use have to change It was not a hard job at all. I also have done a rear disc brake on another truck I had and did the Chevy Caliper and Disc set up, but I took the Caliper mounting plate from the front of a 74' Chevy 3/4 ton 4w/d and welded up the holes in it, redrilled the holes and bolted up. I like the Van set up a lot better. It looks like the truck came with it.

If you read, this guy purchased the rear end complete from a wrecking yard from a Van, then purchased almost every thing new or rebuilt. He didn't use hardly any of the items he got from the wrecking yard. The kit you are talking about, doesn't look factory for a Ford Truck. The Van set up does look factory.
