Transmission Skipping when cold.........
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Dec-01 AT 06:23 PM (EST)]When my temp gauge on my 98 Explorer XLT 4WD shows a cold temp, all the way below C, my transmission seems to skip when I press on the gas hard, whether I floor it or not. I will press on the gas and hear the engine accelerate, then it takes a second for the tranny to respond, it will catch and jerk real hard. Once then temp is normal again, it wont do it at all. Is this the tranny, or something with the engine? or is there a TSB or any recalls that may be the cause?? Mileage is 80127. Thanx.
Forgot to add that its 4.0L SOHC, if that makes any difference.

Sounds to me like your fluid level is low. It should be checked while in park and with the engine running. When your fluid gets warm it will expand which explains why it only does it when its cold.
