What I am looking for is a black 2005 4X4 diesel Excursion. I want the Bench seat on the second row, limited. I want the rear air deflector, but I know I'll have to add that on later. I saw one on ebay that had 20" King Ranch rims on it and I missed it. I have seen them with Banks systems, custom exhaust and sunroofs. (listed in Phoenix and bought by a dude in Atlanta). I look on Cars.Com, Autotrader and Vehix. Need milage as low as possible (DUH, I KNOW) Want the DVD system and I know I'll have to spend more money to get it just like I want is (winch, Buskstop bumper, ect.)
Keep an eye peeled. I should have my money in about 30 days.
The guy that sold the truck, had the sunroof installed aftermarket in Arizona. It did look great. They did a really good job on the interior roof. Looked like a factory job.
The two things this does not have that I want is the bench seat and not the quad captains chairs and I want the tube step bumpers, as opposed to the black running boards. But other than that, your right.
The quad chairs can be swapped out if everything else checks out. Someone may even swap you boards for steps. It took me about 3 months to find the right one so be patient (was VERY hard for me!!) and the right one will come along. I'm lucky my wife is understanding - we went on several trips looking at ones which were not as advertised. I wanted a lower mileage very clean example and it was tough. Do you need the extra seat the bench provides? I wanted the quads to allow for easy access to the 3rd row and give room for 2 80lb dogs to lay down.
Yes, patience is NOT one of my virtues. I thanks for the input. I am going to look on ebay for a set of 20" King Ranch wheels and tires. Sometimes you can find them. I'll just keep looking, because with my '01 diesel, (which I had to sell) had 240,000+ on it and showed no signs of slowing down. The diesel's will last forever if you take care of them. I don't care what Obama says, diesel's are a better alternative than hybrids for what I have to do.
Very few of the '05 X's actually got '05 engines; for the most part they got carryover '04 engines. So this wouldn't be a far cry from what you're looking for.
The only thing on mine which I thought I would not like are the paddle mirrors and I've actually gotten used to them. I like the LED turn signal indicators. I towed my boat this past weekend and could see very well - partly due to just the width of the actual truck. The mirrors are an easy swap though - so again don't let a deal go away when it's 3 bolts and a wiring harness away from being perfect! I may swap eventually - mainly because the tow mirrors look tougher not because I need the extra visibility.
Not sure how far you are willing to drive - but Crossroads Ford in Raleigh, NC usually has a good selection of diesel Ex's. They had 5 last week and all are gone at the moment - but doesn't hurt to keep checking back:
