Have a line on a set of seats out of an extended cab 89 F150 and am interested in replacing the seats in my 77 F150. I just got an email back from the seller saying that they were bucket seats with a center console. If so I'm assuming they are the 40/20/40 type setup. Not seen any pics yet so once I do I'll be able to answer that better.
Anyways I mainly curious about how difficult this would be to swap into my 77. Anything special I need to look out for? Just straight up can't be done? Simple rail swap and bolt in? Any insights would be welcome. After work tonight I will be going through some of the other threads about seat replacements and will try and gleen as much info as I can from them.
Deffinately not a bolt in deal, but with some creative fabrication you can achieve reasonable results. Bench seats are easy since they share similar mounting designs, but the split bench or other configurations require some floor mods and some creativity.
I took a bench seat out of an early 90 F-100 and put it into my 76. I used the mounting backets off my 76 and had to adapt the slider mechanism. The brakets bolted right up and it fit the existing holes no problem. Adapting the slider mechanism didn't require any fabrication, it pretty much hooked right up.
Yeah been watching this thread for a bit. He has tools/abilities beyond that I have at my disposal. Definatly nice work though. Still waiting on pics from the seller so I'm not real sure yet what I may be getting into.
See if the seller can get pics of the bottom of the seat. From what I have heard 9not yet seen) the late 80's/early 90's seats like this came on somewhat of a "tray" that held them all together like 1 piece. This "tray" can be modified to bolt to the stock seat brackets. As I said I have not seen this in person - so I cannot confirm for sure.
There is a difference between 40/20/40 seats and bucket seats with a center console, which of the two is it?
Ah..hm not real sure yet...still waiting on pics from the seller. I guess I was just assuming when he said it had a center console it was a 40/20/40 setup...my bad. I'll update once I find out specifics.
