my 76 F-250 will sometimes not start, other times it may start with out even engaging the starter, if it has only been off for a few minutes.
sometimes when it finally does start there will be a backfire immediately before it starts.
I replaced the ECM 5+ years ago and think it may be time again to replace it
when it does start, there are no issues at all with anything
the truck mostly is parked, I think I drove it 200 miles last year, btw it has a new ignition switch
you mean that the pick-up could go bad after only 35 years?
it's the OEM
connectors are not in the best shape, but have been cleaned, coated with silicone grease, and taped to hold together
is there a place to get new wires/connector assemblies?
probably should just replace all as it is all OEM
Ive had the magnetic pickup fail and cause me lots of intermittency problems. Nothing visual I could see. I'm using a MSD 6A ignition. I went back to a points distributor and my ignition intermittency has ended.
Beware of replacement pick-up, I bought one from auto zone that was made in mexico and when installed, the gap between the reluctor and the pick-up coil was to wide. The tooth on the reluctor and the pick-up must be very close but not touch when rotating. If the gap is not close enough the system will not trigger a spark to the plugs. (Will not start)
The quality of aftermarket parts is getting very sparse............bart
