I have the feeling I am going to get a simple answer and feel like a dumb@$$. I did my CCV mod from Clay today. I noticed smoke coming from the vent tube. I checked it out when I parked with the truck at idle. Sure enough its just puffin' along. It wouldn't be as bad except that I only had enough vent tube to reach right almost directly under the drivers seat.
BTW, how come the smilies are all outta order. Got me all messed up...

Smoke is normal. Extend your hose!
The smiles are changing with each one of my posts?
Did you get your bling yet?
yea, I get a good bit of smoke at idle also.. enough so that if I leave the truck idling for 5 - 10mins it will kill the grass in that spot.
I want to come up with some sort of CC evac pump. possibly a small smog pump, that way can pull it through a catch can, and still maintain vacuum on the CC

You will find that some oil smoke less than others. You can also point it more towards your tranny. I have had very good luck with Rotella dino. Must less smoke than when I was running Delo.

Rotella dino may have less smoke, but it stinks. When I was running it my wife and I joked about bad BO when idling. Synthetic cured that.
Ran the Rotella syn, good stuff but got the Schaeffers syn in there now, smells pretty good All normal on the steady smoke stream.. Glad everything went smooth..

A steady "stream" of oil fumes/smoke at idle is "normal" but any signs of "puffing" indicates excessive blow by on one or more cylinders. The best way to test/monitor for excessive blow by is to install a crankcase pressure gauge and test the engine while under a WOT maximum load.
I ran my along the length of the frame into a piece of 2"x18" black PVC with about 20 1/4" holes drilled in it so it catches the oil residue (amke sure you point the holes at 12 o'clock), but causes no backpressure on the system. I have the pipe zip-tied just infront of my rear bumper and clean it out about every 6 months or so. I used to have people tell me they think my truck is burning LOL, but now you can barely see the smoke stream.
