I have a 79 f150 with a c6 tranny from an 80 f150. the problem i have is that when i accelerate it has a nice clean 1-2 shift but the 2-3 shift sucks. The motor revs up about 200 rpms and then it catches third. Other than that the tranny drives great and doesnt slip at all. It has a shift kit that was installed when it was rebuilt. It also only does this when its fully up to operating temperature. when it is cold it shifts great.Any Ideas? Thanks.
Check to see how it engages Reverse when it is hot (same condition to get the bad 2-3 shift). If it is slow to engage reverse too, the front clutch either has worn plates or the shaft and/or piston seal rings are marginal. The front clutch is used for direct as well as reverse. If the shift kit added an orifice to the passage that applies the front clutch, remove the orifice plug.
Happy troubleshooting,

I had one like that once. It was the servo. The servo seals were leaking. In a C-6 the servo works in both directions. It has to release the band (2nd gear) before it can apply 3rd. It's trying to apply 3rd gear before 2nd has been completely released, causing the flare up.
You servo may have metal sealing rings or it may be rubber coated. They changed to the rubber coated servo in the 80's. Looks like a hockey puck on a stick.
Either way, it's something that can be replaced without pulling the trans.
