I noticed today when pulling my 8,000 lb trailer and when traveling at about 55 to 60 mph my egts were at 900 to 1000 degrees. Isn't that a little hot? I have the 6637 filter, 80 horse tow burn(DP), and stock exhaust w/out muffler and cat. Maybe it's time to get a aftermarket exhaust? I am tight on money right now so is this temp in the normal for stock or do I need to worry more about it?
Nothing to worry about, specially if you had a slight head wind. When I pull a 7,400lb boat I was running 400 or 500 downhill, 500 to 900 on ground, 1000 to 1200 up hill. Just keep it below 1300 if you can.
In regards to whether or not it's time for an aftermarket exhaust.... Well when you have the chance but just don't push above 1300, if you can just to be safe keep it 1200 or lower and you'll be fine but a aftermarket 4" or 5" exhaust will lower your EGTs a bit and replacing the IC with a 6.0 or something that cools your intake a bit more will help as well.
I hope this answers your questions
