I'm having an issue shifting my 99' XLT from 2wd to 4hi/lo. I had the tranny rebuilt a couple years ago, at that time I was unable to shift into 4wd at all. The guy who rebuilt said there was nothing mechanically wrong everything had just seized up. He lubed it and I was able to shift relatively easy.
My normal mechanic said this is common because water leaks in and causes the mechanisms to lock up. He dropped a couple drops of oil in and it helped the last time it started to stick. Is this a common problem and are there any good solutions to fix this for the long haul?
Welcome to FTE tim6409! I do not have first hand experience with your trouble but, I have seen many threads with the same symptoms. The best remedy is after lubing the mechanism again and getting it working properly is to put the truck in and out of 4wd once a month to keep the mechanism working smoothly. Good luck!
