If the tcase is directly attached to the tranny, it is married. If there is a short driveshaft between the two, they are divorced.
You are probably going to need the tcase from a c6 (assuming thats what tranny you are using), and you will have to cut you driveshaft down, and adjust tcase shift linkage.
Don't forget the c6 is a 3sp, and you will lose the granny low first. As far as I know, third gear in a c6 is the same 1:1 ratio as the 4th gear in the np435, so no real advantage there.
What's the reason for the swap? Tired of bangin away at the gears?
No real big reason, there was a C6 that came up on Craigslist for a 77 351M 4x4 so I have been entertaining the thought on making it a little easier for my son to drive. Since I would need the correct transfer case also, he could get use to driving the clutch I guess.
All married F series and large bronco transfer cases have the same bolt pattern. The round 6 pattern has never changed, so installing your same case behind any trans is fine, right up to the more recent BW cases, they share the same patter.
Ok, well there is a problem, where the problem lies is in the adapter and driveshaft clearance.
There are two different lengths, the long and short adapter, and should you decide to use the short adapter on the automatic transmission, you will run into some driveshaft clearance issues.
With this set up you wont get anything larger than a 1310 joint in there, and this may be a little on the small side.
All in all, the transfer case will bolt up, but there are smaller issues that could mean that this is not a justifiable conversion.
Much depends upon how bad you want an auto.

How hard would it be to bolt up a 208 transfer case and 400 motor in a 77 f-150 to a 2 wd 435 transmission that was attached to a 300 six in a 86 f-150? I know the bellhousing has to be changed but I dont know about anything else.
