Valve seal replacement process

I've searched and searched an only found parts and pieces of what I'm looking for, The next rainy day I plan on replacing my valve seals but have a few questions?

1) Bring the piston to tcd to keep the valves from dropping into the cylinder,
on gassers you can find tdc by removing the spark plug and feeling the "compression" but how to do this on a diesel?
Remove the Glow plug like in the spark plug example or is there a way to tell by looking at the valve spring / rockers?

2) Is there or do you need to "lash the valve" like on a gasser or are they just torqued down and your done?

any other tips or tricks???

Timing mark on the crank gets cylinder #1 to TDC.
Every 90 degrees rotation brings the next cylinder to TDC looking at the firing order.
Actually the first cylinder at TDC will also mean the 4th cylinder in the firing order will also be at TDC.
Sorry my notes are not where I can get to them right now, but the firing order is on the intake manifold.

Hydraulic lifters, torque the rockers down and you are good to go.
