I believe that the consensus engine color on the '61's is a black block with a Ford red valve cover. Mike Mueller's book "Ford Pickup Trucks" ISBN 978-0-7603-3262-7 has what is identified as a '61 223 six on page 119. It is painted Ford red on the block with a black valve cover and air cleaner. The dipstick and the oil filler/breather are both painted yellow. It looks sharp. I think it is really a 1962 though by looking at the grill.
Is this a deviation in the restoration, or have I misunderstood what folks have said about the color?
Thanks, my 223 is currently painted blue everywhere after a previous owners rebuild. I cleaned up the oil pan last weekend and didn't find anything under the blue so I couldn't tell.
