I'm in the process of replacing my rotted '80 Styleside short bed box with a '95 short bed box (to undergo a sheet metal fender conversion to an '80 later). My existing gas tank is 16 gal. and I was wondering if the tank from the '95 extra cab donor truck will fit. The donor has 2 tanks, the first tank is 16 gal.. I noticed in the LMC catalogue that while the gas tank straps fit '80-'96, the tanks themselves have different part numbers. Does this mean that the 16 gal. '95 tank will not fit into my '80 F100 Custom? Any help is appreciated.
It will bolt up, however be aware that the sending units/intank fuel pump will not interchange, therefore it will not work for you without modification.
You need to get a 1980-1984 tank.
The main difference is the sender/fuel sump, the hole size is considerably different. If it were older than 92, the resistance would work and you could make it work.
OK. I wasn't sure if it would bolt up. The fuel pump is mechanical and located at the engine driver's side of the engine.
Right, on your 1980 it is, it only uses a Sending Unit.
On the 1995 it has a in-tank fuel pump, and as Fellro86 said above the hole is considerably different in the tank as a consequence. Theres no safe way to put the 1980 sending unit on the 1995 tank.
