I have a Pro Comp gear drive that came with no instructions. Is there anything special I should know about installing it? It has the thrust washer but I've seen posts that say you should always have a cam button as well. It's going in a 429.
Most cam buttons are used with roller cams, and not flat tappets. Flat tappets by design retain the cam and revent "walk". Rollers are free to move foward and aft so they require a button to prevent this.
That Pro Comp gear drive is,,,,,,,,,,,well how shal I say, a very introductory (thats a good word) unit, and I have found them to not have the accuracy that I am comfortable with.
At any rate, these have 9 key ways, and without instructions, you may find yourself in a bit of a bind, or at the every least find yourself questioning the final timing.
The instructions are available through the manufacturer.
