Ok I just did an oil cooler, once I started truck ran fine for about three minutes then started running real rough, and got a code for an IPR, tried to drive the truck and will run real good unless idling then goes up and down. When driving sometimes the wrench light comes on the tach stops working, the coolant temp gauge stops working. You can turn the truck off and it runs fine all gauges working fine for a few minutes then starts acting up again. Any ideas would be appreciated. Sorry forgot to mention 06 F250 6.0L
Replace the ipr valve, you will probably find debris in the screen and/or the screen crushed. Ford has a SSM (specical service message) about servicing oil coolers and making sure nothing falls down into cavity. There is a screen down there that usually has to be replaced. Sometimes it still happens no matter how clean and careful you are.
The IPR has nothing to do with the tach and other gauges not working. and a bad IPR would not allow the truck to run good for two minutes then bad, turn it off and runs good again two minutes.
No but its a place to start, if the truck is acting crazy like you said, I would pull the ipr valve and look it, it doesn't take that long to pull. I should have mentioned that I am a Ford Diesel mechanic and have seen plenty of those right after and oil cooler replacement.
I'll look, I'll also mention I own a diesel repair shop all I do is Diesel's and I have not seen this one, so I thought I'd check here can't find anything on identifix, alldata, mitchell, or the ford web site, which I access from the dealer I buy all my ford dealer parts.
