I just finished a major rebuild on my 79 f250 300six.
I cranked and cranked and it would not start. I rechecked my timing several times then decided to prime it with some gas down the carb. still nothing. I pulled a plug wire and and put a spare sparkplug in the boot and grounded it and it was firing but the spark was fat and orange. It looked weak to me.
After many attempts it started and ran for about 5 min at fast idle and smoothed out. I cut it off to check the antifreeze level. Now it won't start at all. I moved the advance back and forth. Just crank and crank with not a pop.
I have primed it, checked the plugs, timing etc but nothing not a pop or anything.
My question is, can the Duraspark go bad while not being used for a couple of months?
It started and ran fine before teardown. The spark looks weak but it is firing. What about the coil? Any ideas?
I has new plugs, Autolite 45 and they are not fowled.
It fired up and ran one time for about 5 min. I shut it off to check water, oil and leaks and it would not start again.
