Does anyone know if a SBF V8 will fit in the engine compartment of an Aerostar? I put a NP 435 tranny in my van so I could bolt in a V8 with my current drive train. RB
I think I posted a while back that the SBF v8 is a couple inches wider, taller, and longer than the 4.0 liter v6. So some cutting of metal will be required. But I don't see that that would be a problem for you.
I was thinking I could drop the sub frame a couple inches by building a spacer between it and the frame. This would give me more room without cutting up the engine bay. RB
V8 with 1-1.5 BAR boost pressure will destroy your drive line. Small 27 mm UJs may crack. Diesel engine in aerostar killed stock DS (broken UJs, cracked eyars) and more tought steel DS was installed. After DS swap we all realised that heavy DS ballanced to zero vibrates anyway and the only way was to cut it and add center support bearing, like on semitrucktors.

Not my drivetrain! It's all out of full sized trucks now. And if I break it, I'll put in tougher stuff! RB
well, now I wanna rebuild my old 3.0 but if I'll not like it will run I gonna put something else. I think about mid size diesel, like Mercedes OM904 ore OM906 with mercedes tranny.
But there are 2 different ECU versions for EU and USA. EU ECUs are 24 v powered, US models - 12 V, in EU they use ADM (FR) unit with iso can, in the USA 12V unit works via J1939 CAN + J1708 for diagnostic and to controll ECU, Vehicle Controll Unit (VECU) is used that communicate to ECU via J1939.
Well, for me these electronically related problems are not problems really! ))))

The 260 horse would be over a 100 more than you have now. That ought to make her get up and go. RB
this engine is slow (2200 RPM max), but torque is really crazy! RB! pay attention on small and mis size diesel engines, like Cummins B-series, they are cheapper the suffisticated german engneering
