reciever hitch class needed

I need to get a reciever hitch for my truck to tow a mini excavator. What class hitch should I get, class 4 or class 5? I can go to summit racing and get a curt hitch, class 4 with a 1k tongue and 10k tow capacity or get a curt class 5 with a 1200 tongue and 12k tow capacity.
The mini ex weighs around 9600lbs

What is the legal towing capacity of my truck?
94.5 f350 4x4 crew cab long bed

class 5. 9600 plus the weight of the trailer will exceed class 4.

I would go as heavy duty as I could get. Regardless of what your towing. Some class 5 hitches come with the larger receiver. I have to upgrade mine. Not rated high enough. Or you could go with an integrated bumper / hitch like a Reunel. Those are nice but pricey. The Curt Magnum V looks like a good unit. What's the total weight of unit and trailer. Trailer brakes? Capacity for a 350 I don't know for sure. I'm sure it's somewhere on here.

You're gonna be way over the limit.

14500 lbs gross weight and 7900 max trailer weight

Your 3:55 gears, 5 speed, 4x4 and crew cab are all working against you as far as towing capacity. A regular cab 2wd auto with 4:10's can pull a 12500 lb trailer and gross 20000

97 auto 3.55 4x4 7.3 used to pull 10000 plus regularly with no problem.

Oh I have no doubt that he can pull it just fine, but he asked about the legal limit.. The numbers I posted were from the Ford trailer towing guide and I'm not sure they can be enforced as the legal limit.

Not what I wanted to hear.
My truck comes in at around 6700lbs. The trailer is tandem axle using a pintle hitch. It gets pulled by a dodge 1ton drw stake bed.
