hey guys, My buddy has a '94 f250 with a 460. He bought a biult 460 that is around 500hp. And he put it in his truck and know it idles around 2000/3000 rpm. Do you think the SD has something to do with this or do you think he has another problem? if so what can he do about it?
Well the SD system really has no chance of running that motor correctly or at anywhere close to full potential, the injectors aren't big enough, the fuel pump isn't big enough, and I'd say the intake isn't big enough. If he has it crammed in there with the stock intake and exhaust it might just be choked down to the 300hp level which the stock EFI could potentially do, but as already stasted the cam is not gonna be SD EFI friendly... as in somthing that produces a steady vacuum at idle, so it won't idle any good.
The high idle is not related to this however, that's the result of a major air leak, intake gasket, stuck IAC, messed up throttle linkage, big vacuum leak...

He siad that when he put the intake on that it didnt seam to line up right. This was a carb motor and as for as I know the intakes are all interchangable, but I have heard that if you shave to much off of the heads and deck the intake will not fit any more. Has any one ever run in to this problem before, and can you shave the bottom of the intake to make it line up right again?
The EFI engines have different intake and exhaust ports.
Price Motorsports makes an adapter plate to put a carb onto an EFI lower manifold but to the best of my knowledge no one makes an EFI intake for pre '87 heads.

No they're not and that's the problem. He needs EFI heads or maybe an aftermarket EFI intake designed for the early heads.
