I have a 1990 Ford F-250 with 74,000 original miles on it. The truck has been running great. Recently it would not start so I had the starter tested and it was bad. I put a new starter on it and the engine turns over but does not fire. The truck also has a new battery and spark plugs. The fuel gage shows empty but it has a full tank of gas. The fuel gauge worked prior to this problem. I have also pushed the reset button for the fuel pump and replaced the fuel pump relay. I have checked the fuses in the fuse box. Is there an inline fuse to the fuel pump? The guy who tested the starter told me the starter blew the fuse on his tester. I assume this is all connected but I don't know what else to check. I would appreciate any advice on how to get this truck to start. Thanks. Dale.
Yes, the truck has dual tanks. The engine is a 351--not sure what transmission. I haven't checked fuel pressure. How would I do that?
As for the accessories, yes they all run.
If so do you hear any clicks coming from the relays on the drivers fender when you just turn the key to the run position? (fuel pump & EEC Power relays)
i have 90 f250 w/ the 351w also. try having someone spray starting fluid (ether) into the throttle body whie you crank i over. if it starts then its prolly your pump(s) or the sending unit.
No, I can't here any clicks. After the truck set for a few days the battery had drained. I notice the positive battery cable was exposed and a little brittle closer to wear it attaches to the starter. I was wondering if the electric fuel pump is on the same circuit as the starter relay and if this might be the cause of the problem.
When it would not start and you had the starter tested was the old starter cranking the engine?
You are not getting power from the Ignition Switch is your main problem.
Did you replace the starter relay on the fender when you replaced the starter?
Does the your heater blower run with the key in the run position?
Does the radio work in the Run and ACC positions of the key?
Do you have a test light to check for voltage?

The only thing they have in common is the POS (+) battery cable where it hooks to the starter relay.
