Everyone...we have a 6.4L 2009 F350 Ambulance. People are driving it way way to fast and I need to know if these units can be goverend. Seems right now it will max out around 97MPH.....way the hell to fast for a medical unit with a big huge box stuck on the back.
Yep, mine actually limits to 96.2 according to my GPS unit. Probably would be easier to use a GPS to monitor the max speed by each of your drivers, then, have a nice little talk in private when you figure out who is driving so irresponsibly.
One of the custom tuners could do this but I wouldnt go that route and void a warranty on that type of vehicle. Maybe ask your local dealer about it because I know a lot of big trucking companies are doing this but I dont know if its through the trucks programming or through the GPS.
I agree with ruschejj that I would take the offending individual in the back room and have a really nice talk with him... by a nice talk I mean let the big stick in your hand do most of the talking for you.
Your EMS director needs to get some ***** and make an example out of the offenders...governers are for guys that don't want to be accountable. I'm just curious, does Ford even honor the warranty on an ambulance?
If you think 97mph is fast with a box on the back, go check out the US Border Patrol driving that truck with a big human cage/box in the back Best job in the world sir!
whatever company built the ambulance and box should have told ford when they ordered it that it would be an emergency response vehicle in which case they would have governed the vehicle to 70 mph which meets NFPA and VFIS standards for emergency response vehicles, with that being said you may call ford and tell them what you have got and see if they will reprogram the unit for your needs. i know they have that set up because we have a F550 done that way also. hope this helps. also the local ambulance contractor for our area has installed gyro's into all their ambulances with gps so if they go over a certain speed, break too fast, or turn too sharp it alerts their headquarters and then they dock the emts pay according to violations they have acrued.
