Hi I am wondering what the better transmission for a 1975 F250 with a 390 is. Does the 4 speed Manual transmission have any benefits over the Automatic? Is it more prone to problems?
Any ideas would be helpful thanks!
you should let us know what specific manual and auto trans. you're comparing. And it depends on what you intend to do with the truck as to what beneficial might be. Heavy towing? Cruising? Little more info is needed.
I prefer the NP435 over the C6, you don't come across many highboys with the C6, probably for good reason, the NP435 is virtually bullet proof and a much more stout transmission imo.
the 4 speed will give better milage as well, due to the C6 not having a lock up torque converter
hahaha if mileage is a concern, NONE of us recommend a Hi-boy!! but yes you are right, every bit helps i guess!
Either way, as said already, go with the np435. Haven't put mine through it's paces yet, but i'm already impressed with it! I've read that some NP435 are still being used in UPS trucks, with that kind of reputation, you can't go wrong.
