towing a 5th wheel

i have been considering getting a 5th wheel. i have some questions
1. is the reciever hard to install in the bed
2. i have a lift does that complicate the towing.. will it still towhow it should.. and will a 250 SRW be able to tow a decent sized one

I would think you might run into problems having a 4" lift with 35's when towing a 5th wheel. Larger tires and gearing, and you want a "decent sized one" might not be that good either. But someone else might chime in on that. I want to get the 3" blocks off a 350 for mine with a 1 1/2" level on the front with only 285's and think that is just high enough.

I have friends with lifted trucks 4" and 6" and they tow pretty decent sized 5th wheels. About the only problem they run into is trailer to the top of bed rail clearance if their trailer is not lifted high enough to go with the lift kit. Hopefully that makes sense. Basically you are going to have to lift your trailer to match the truck. About the only problem I see is that your center of gravity is going to be higher ect with the trailer that much higher in the air then it normally would be.

I have the truck in the sig below. I still run 285 tires and pull my 5'er which is 40 ft long. I have the taller stock blocks in my truck and I still am real careful going in and out of driveways ect. Just to make sure I dont wack the bed with the trailer. I have around a foot or maybe a lil more clearance and have never had a problem.

The hitch is not that hard to install its all bolt in usually. There are different kind of hitches so do your research and see which one will work the best for what you want. I personally have a gooseneck adapter on my 5'er which I love when I get to a destination I have the bed space all clear to use except for the ball and I can fold that down and out of the way. Hope that helps.

I had a lift on a previous truck that I used for fifth-wheel towing. To fix the problem, I took the axles (2 axle, 35' 5'er) off the trailer ...the springs were bolted on the bottom of the axles. I then remounted the springs on top of the axles and it leveled the unit to the truck. I also had to change the shocks, if I remember correctly.
