Hi guys, Im new here and i have a big question for you guys. Me and a friend of mine both bought a 78 f150 with the 400 V8 auto. We bought it with NO BRAKES though. We were hoping to get lucky and just bleed them and they would work but of course nothing goes the way you want it to. When i opened the bleeders while attempting to bleed the brakes nothing happend no air no gurgling no leaking brake fluid at all. That was on the back the i decided to make my way to front to see if anything was diferent up there and the same thing happend. The guy we bought it from said the person before him replaced some of the brake lines and the master cylinder. We took the cap off and hit the brakes and no fluid bubbles or anything.
Help me out here what am i missing or got to do im at a loss!
HI, I have a '78 F-150 as well. What I would suggest doing is take the cap off the master cylinder and fill it up. Then open all the bleeders and leave them open. After a while you should see drips from all the bleeder screws. Once you do, close them up and attempt bleeding it again. That should do the trick. Just make sure the master doesn't run dry while doing this! Good luck, Fez...

fill the master, open the bleaders at all 4 corners. gravity will get the fluid there then close em up. at that point you can start to bleed them.
whoever did the original work probably got a bunch of air in the system.
or they are plugged with rust/grime. take a bleeder completely out to see if its clogged, your going to have to bleed the brakes anyway (btw do this with the master cyl cap on to minimize fluid loss). if its plugged clean it out with a piece of wire and compressed air.
