I have just had my 08 F-350 Broke into at a major electronics retailer by what the police are calling the newest and most common way of breaking into the super duty's. They went to the passenger side door handle and wedged a flat screwdriver between the door and the handle and just simply twisted it and popped the entire handle out and lifted the rod opening the door and then pillaged through and stole my property then locked my door and shut it. The police claim this is a popular way to break into the super duty's due to the fact it leaves very minimal damage and the driver doesn't typically notice the missing handle right off so by the time thy do notice the missing handle they are usually far from the site where it happened so there is little to no evidence for the police to gather to track down the sorry S.O.B's that break into them. Times are tough and break ins are on the rise so that is why i am trying to let everyone know something else to watch out for
Welcome, but it's not so new. This has been a problem since the 99 body, however the door handles can be hardened. Jimmy Jammers are a popular option, but a good alarm should help as well.
I never pull the keys out of my super duties and only lock on a rare occasion. May lock if i leave it running. That way if they want in they won't damage my truck. If they want to steel it the keys are in them most of the time so its good riddance i guess. Thats what we pay insurance for. I guess i am blessed for nobody steels much of anything out here were i live. We are just good ol hardworking WASPS and no my state didn't vote in nobama. WE have way to much class for that.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Got mine broke into last March. They were after the truck but struck out when they couldn't start it. Thanks Viper. They did $1400 damage trying, but at least I still got my truck. They settled for and 05 psd a few hundred feet away in another lot. Wouldn't you like to know who did it and tune em up with a bat or a pipe. Our cops told me they know who it is, but they wouldn't tell me. Not enough to haul them in either. What can you do...
just try not to park where there's oppurtunity for them.

Will your insurance still pay out if you leave the keys in it?
The old chevy's - maybe 55-ish - had a position on the ignition switch where if you removed the key in that position, the switch would then turn on and off without the key. My grandparents didn't even know where their car keys were most of the time. Boy those days are gone forever.....
Another Idea if you are looking for that custom look is to shave the door handles all together and use remote door poppers, I have plans to install on my 99, my not be the most practical for a work truck but eliminates them popping the handles out all together.
If you leave your keys in the ignition and someone steals it, it's considered aiding and abetting and the insurance will not pay.
Are you sure about that? I discussed a similar thing with a LEO when a truck of mine got gutted for the sound system. I was unable to lock the door at that particular phase of the build and I asked if that was an issue. He said "no, even though it is easy for them to get, it is still theft." My insurance paid too.
Now, I have no idea if that is correct or not and I don't know where to look it up in the statutes either.
It's theft when they enter and leave the vehicle taking only what they want by force. If you leave the keys in the vehicle and they drive off, some states consider that baiting. It's still theft, but you didn't do take the keys out, so your just as liable or something to that effect.
Statutes should be available on line for every state. There should be a group of criminal infractions and definitions. In FL I think they are in the 700s.

Wow! Good to know, thanks for posting this up for us to read! Sorry to hear about the break in.
Had the same thing happen twice at the Red Roof inn in Miami 2 months ago. Only took a set of $80.00 binos. Finally got the the truck back home had a security system added.
Both locks they messed up and had to replace @ 85.00 and 50.00 to have them re keyed by a locksmith.

Yes they will pay even if it is running with the keys in it. They might cancel u
but on the other hand if it is never recovered they will never know anyway. I hate to lock any vehicle then get it tore up by a thief who only gets a stupid CD or something and does a thousand $ damage to my vehicle which is very inconvenient to get repaired.
