300ci engine to C6
I've bought a 1981 F150 with a blown 351M engine that I want to replace with a good 300 ci in-line 6-cyl that I have. Will the 6-cyl bolt to the C6 in the truck? If not, is there an adaptor available to make it work? Or, must I replace the transmission, too? If so, which of the three bell housings on the C6 matches the 6-cyl engine?

The I6 will not bolt up to that tranny. If you gotta use a I6 put A c4 in there. It takes less to turn it over. What about emissions in your state?

I also have an '80 E150 van with the 300ci engine, C6 trans. and a 9-inch diff. I'd like to set up my "new" F150 to match. I have the engine, a freebie in excellent condition, and all I need to do is figure out how to get it into the F150 in front of a C6. I contacted a salvage yard today, and was told they have a C6 in a wrecked truck with 351 Windsor engine. The guy at the yard says it is true the 300 won't bolt to a 351 Modified C6 trans, but it will bolt to a 351 Windsor C6 trans. Does that make sense?
My goal is to have two simple, rugged, reliable and easy to repair vehicles I can count on to get me places, hauling my tools and junk, but not look fancy. My Montero looks nice, but maintenance-wise is a pain. It it isn't a good tool-hauling work vehicle either.
There aren't any special pollution control regs to contend with here, so I can set my trucks up pretty much the way I want, without dealing withg red tape and bureaucrats.

Yup, that's right, the 240 and 300 share the SBF bellhousing pattern with the 289/302/351W/351C, but not the 351m and 400, they use the big block pattern. You will need to pick up a flex plate for the 300, and, you may need to change the starter, but, that's about it.
