Question code 44 no Hego.... where do I start??

hello, I have an 88 F250 with 351

problem I am having is that it runs fine till I come to a stop or slow to a idle. then it starts to surge the rpm's high/low high/low and finally stall . I read the codes and got the following:

11 sys pass
33egr valve opening not detected
41 no hego switch detected always lean right side
44 air injection system inoperative

I am gonna rule out code 44 because the air pump has been disconected since before I bought it and it ran fine till last week, code 11 is nothing, and code 33 is minor I know it might cost a bit at the pump but it shouldnt affect the idle like this.

My question is what do I do about code 44 No HEGO

any links to indepth code descriptions and posssible remidies

can any one define this?

I checked for vaccume leaks with srarting fluid and found none, I have done some searching on this forum and google and i get a wide variety. I read somthing about a 02 sensor being bad or timing or hall effect sensor in the dist......... where do I start I don't want to shot gun parts at it....... thanks for your time.

BTW this forum is awsome, good bunch of guys here!

Surging could be a bad MAP sensor or just a dirty IAC. Any EGR problem will affect engine operation so that should be fixed, vacuum leaks between the EGR vacuum regulator(EVR) and valve are common.

Code 41 Hego not switching could mean a bad sensor but it could also mean there is another problem outside computer control that is causing the engne to run lean. Check fuel pressure and make sure the whole air injection system has been removed and all points where it attached to the exhaust are plugged.

Thumbs down

welI thank you for your help, yesterday when I went out to leave for work I checked fluid levels and added water to the radiator(bout a gallon, been awhile since it has been checked) . strangly enough it ran fine on the way to work. Thought it was fixed, well untile I was on my way home it started it again. this morning I checked fluids and for vaccume leaks again ind it was fine. I took it up the road and all was fine untile it warmed up , and the it started to idle rough again........ I havent checked fuell pressure yet. How do I check the O2 sensor? was also thinking maybe the IAC, is there an easy check?? Once again thanks for your help.
