I have a 1970 f250 Crewcab short bed that.....

I am going to use as a tow rig. The truck is a 4x4 and needs a lot of work and is completely stock. I found a complete frame and drive train from a 77 f250 that has a 70 f250 reg cab and long bed mounted on it. Since the frames are probably different can I take the springs, front and rear Diff's, and power assist steering and bolt them up to my crew cab frame? Or are there problems with the widths of the frames front or rear. My thought is by purchasing this truck I'll have everything I need to update my crew cab and get decent doors and a hood as well.

Thanks,

Joe

Parts for a Crew

Some of the 73 to 79 F-250's had the same frame width as the 67 to72 trucks. It may have been the 4 x 4's that are the same. I would check the width of the front and rear parts of both frames carefully. Then if you want to attach the front suspension and drive axel to your truck, you may find a bolt in deal. That would give you the 4 x 4 front end and let you go from there to complete the interchange. As far as using the doors and hood, If they are also 70 F250, (sounds like that is what you're saying), they would be a direct interchange. If they are from a "Dent," (73 to 79 truck) you will find the shapes are different and you probably wouldn't like the "New Look" you would have if you did. None of the body seams would match well when installed. The Power steering is Engine Specific for the pump and related mounting brackets. If the engines are the same, you could bolt it on. There may also be problems with the steering gear, (box), matching up to mountings, etc.......... Good Luck!

If the frame is for sure a 77 Ford F-250 then the front end will bolt right in with the springs also. The rearend is the same width, but the spring mounts are in a different place. You will need to cut them off and reweld them on. you will have to measure the rear spring width on both frames to see if they are the same width, if so they will work. I would stay away from the power assist p/s set up. Get a p/s box off a 78-9 F-150 4x4. It will work alot better than the older set up.

Thru 1972, all F100/350's have rear frame rails that are 33 1/2" apart.

All 1973/77 F250 4WD's (High Boys), some 1973/79 F350's, depending on the wheelbase, also have rear frame rails 33 1/2" apart.

All the other 1973/79 F100/350's have rear frame rails that are 37 1/2" apart.
