bought my truck in march, i now have 6000 miles on it. at the first oil change the guy changing it broke a wrench trying to get the oilfilter off, he said it was put on dry at the factory and its in such an odd place that its hard to get a wrench on it.
the magnaflow exhaust knockoffs are great, nice sound too. i'm still getting around on average 21.5 miles per gallion, the best i've gotten for any length of time was 24.8 but that was poking along slow easy driving. i'm getting 21,5 on 2 lane roads to work and backroads. no problems at all yet, trans is shifting great, engine is running fine, the limited slip rear has come in handy a few times, helps with all the rain here on the farm. the interior is nice, lots of legroom, controls are in easy reach and the ergonomics were well thought out and controls in the right place. no problems at all with the way its made or the doors being a lil longer.
i think this is the best truck ford has made ever, i've owned many so i'd know, from 1956 f100 to the pesent, 9 or 10 in all. mine is an 09 with th 5.4, 6spd, 3.55, XLT regularcab, 4x4, limited slip.
The '04-'08 trucks were known to have the oil filters installed tightly at the factory. I guess the trend continues with the '09.
I have the 5.4 too but in a screw with 4x4 and 20" wheels. The best I managed so far is 19.x on the highway, 14-17 in the city (depends on the amount of stop and go and the speed limit).
A little over 4,000 miles here and it's been - knock on wood - trouble free. 5.4 4wd 3.73 with a shell on the back - drove the 240 miles down from Flagstaff to Tucson again yesterday (admittedly a lot of that is down hill) and got almost 25 mpg on the computer, so maybe 23 or 24 in reality. My similar late great '97 F150 would have only gotten 16 mpg.
today i actually got 45 mpg, but,,,, i did cheat, put the trans in neutral and coast down a mountain road for about 5 miles. wish it did get the though.
20,000 miles now and no problems, mpg is still great, had a sort of sputter in it but it went away, may have been water in gas. broke down and got a back flip bedcover and a bedrug for it. great truck.
