Shock Boots?

I've read on several other forums (yes I read other forums) that shock boots trap dirt and moisture which causes rust and premature seal wear. I am curious of your opinions. Please post any comments. Thank you.

No boots can cause damaged shock rods thus causing seal damage.

I run boots, but they're on the bottom on my Bisteins instead of on the top like most shocks.

I have boots on mine with no problems. There was one on my steering stabilizer, but it rubbed through. I didn't replace it with the new stabilizer.

No problems with the boots on my Bilsteins but like clux they are on the bottom also.

Rust seems to be more of a regional thing. Mostly salt issues up North or coastal issues. No worries with rust where I am.

You might consider revising the poll for the salt belt.

Depends on the climate where you live.

If live somewhere that gets snow and they use salt on the roads or you run a lot of mud, then don't run shock boots, they'll just collect dirt & crap and your shocks will rot away quicker that they should.

If your somewhere that doesn't get snow and you don't run mud then the boots will be fine.

I am in central IL, so there is a fair amount of salt put down in the winter. I don't do much mud, basically just my daily driver.

I'm in Ontario, Canada and over time I've found it much better not to run the boots. This way the when you wash the truck you'll, wash the salt and dirt away and the shocks should last longer and preform better over time.

I have had them both, and haven't really noticed any big differences. I do like the way that the boots look though. The only reason they are not on my truck now is because the shocks that are out it didn't come with any boots.
