I called every parts store around me and could only find the rear rubber for over a hundred dollars with no hardware. Someone told me to use hockey pucks. Any ideas on where to get complete set comparable with the original hardware.
First of all, why do you feel you need to replace the ones you have?
Usually they are replaced as part of sone form of restoration. You need to remove the old and replace the new, You are going to have to have some way of lifting the body, bed and radiator support in order to change them out.
Usually the bases are rusted so bad that it takes a torch or sawzall to remove them. If using a torch be careful around the gas tank. They are truly a PITA to remove.
Just trying to make the cab sit strait and true, cause the cab is almost hitting the box at the moment. I am going for a new truck restoration. I got to get some pics up, it is in really good shape besides the wear and tear parts. Im lookin at NPD now cant find em though. Slow computer as well.
They are in the online catalog for your year. You may still be able to get the Hardware through Ford. I bought it through them about 3 years ago. It took a patient parts counter guy though, cause the part part numbers have changed a cople of times over the years.
the rear cab mounts that sit on the crossmember tend to rot out the crossmember and fall thru it. You would have to replace the cross member or weld patches in to support the cab mount LMC Truck Parts - Page 31
I dont know which to buy Polyurethane or lmc's rubber, Which is better, I dought anyone even has a set to look at around here.
could i buy either and use hardware from a bolt n nut store. Those $20 retainers look like they could be replaced with a washer, same with the shims.
That is a decision for you. The Polyurethane will wear better, but isn't "original" if you are doing a restoration. If you don't properly lubricate the polyurethane, they will squeak. The rubber is quieter, original, but will wear faster than the polyurethane.
I used the polyurethane and am happy with them for my purposes.
As far as the hardware is concerned, you probably can fabricate something. I used hardware from FOMOCO. I found it was cheaper from them than from any of the aftermarket suppliers. At that time, probably cheaper than buying all the hardware.
I put a poly body bushing set in my 83 when i did the body lift. I hatted it. All it did was squeak and clunk. I took the poly ones out and put in OEM rubber ones and made all the difference in the world!!!
