I recently purchased a built 460. I am putting this engine in a 1940 Ford pickup with a TCI C-6 auto. When I bought the engine, it did not have a flexplate. The person who built the motor is not available to answer my question. My question, does the term balanced and neutral balanced mean the same? Also, how can I tell if I need a balanced or unbalanced flexplate for the 460. Thanks for your help
Depends on the year of the engine, the '78 and older are internally balanced and should have "neutral" balance on the flexplate and damper. The '79 and later are externally balanced and need the balance weights on both.
look at your front hormonic balencer is it perfectly round and the back flush or dose it have a counter weight
the best way is to take off the oil pan and look at the crank and on one of the counter weights it should have a stamp either 2y or 3y one means internaly ballanced the other means ext. ballanced
i cant encourage you enough to cheack this out it is very costly if you get it wrong with a parts house help i have
