08 diff cover

Do you need washers when you install this aluminum diff cover or just the bolts. Thanks

I believe that most people use washers. That's what I plan to do when I do it.

I went with longer flanged bolts instead of bolts and washers. Looks almost exactly the same as the stock bolts. Get them from McMaster-Carr . Part # 92316A585. 5/16" - 18 Thread 1.25" length fully threaded. A pack of 25 is $6.61 + shipping.

not gonna hijack the thread but whats the advantage of the 08 diff cover? dissapating heat and keeping everything cooler since it has heatsink fins??

I used standard grade 5 bolts and washers. Painted the cover black and then sanded the ends of the fins. More surface area for cooling and the COOL factor.

That's pretty much it. Won't rust either since it's aluminum. But I don't recall if the stock one was aluminum or not.

08'up 5.4l and 6.8l trucks got the stamped steel cover and the 6.4l got the cast aluminum cover.

You'll want to use washers or a flange head bolt because the aluminum is soft.

I was changing out my fluid so I went ahead and got the 08 finned cover since the price was pretty good. Looks a lot better than my old brown rusty cover.
