friday night at 10pm here in yorkton there was a nasty accident. a 1991 honda civic with 3 teenage boys lost control and collided with a tree on 2nd ave... all 3 boys died-2 at the scene, one later at the hospital. there were bottles at the scene, but get this... the boys were (1) 16 years old, (2) 15 years old... tell me there isn's something wrong with this picture?????
underaged drinking, DUI, excessive speed... c'mon... when will people learn???
i imagine it was a party of some sort... the details are pretty sketchy right now from what i hear, but what more needs to be known....?? its a proven fact that drinks and driving = loss of life. i don't know how many times i've heard this as a kid growing up, its broadcasted more and more all the time, yet people turn a blind eye to it... i don't understand the human reasoning...
i hope what becomes of it is increased patrol from the law enforcement. they need to clamp down on young drivers. i know i did a few stupid things when i was a new driver, never under the influence, but regardless, a few visits from the red and blues sure helped me see a different side of things. 98% of 15-16 year olds are not mature enough to handle the responsibility of driving. this is a different era than 20 years ago where most kids were from the farm and had been driving since they could reach the wheel... this is an age where the only driving done until they're 15-16 is on a computer or video game where you get points for running over a hooker.
vehicles are faster, kids are less mature...parents are less disciplinary... its a downward spiral, and i wonder how many "tradgedies" have to happen before there is some increased regulations on the matter...
What do say to a terrible thing like this. I remember doing some stupid things when I was young, but it was simpler and slower times then. This generation is exposed to much more than we were at 15 or 16. There was a lot more respect for police and laws then. I'm not saying that things are all bad, only that it is a much faster moving world today. In Edmonton this weekend there was a man stabbed to death by 3 kids 15 & 16 years of age. It happened not to far from where we live and my 15 year daughter was at a sleep over just a couple of blocks away. It happened at around 10pm. The guy was 39 years old and out for a walk.
Seems all kinda needless doesn't it...
Im sorry but I just dont feel sorry for 3 teenagers getting drunk and driving stupidly. All I can say is good thing nobody else got hurt and my sympatheys to the families.
I too done my share of stupid things as a young man. Like 7 speed chases with police. Caught once.
Yes today is such a rush rush society. Also it is harder for parents to discipline kids. Too many bleeding hearts out there got the laws change if you spank your kid all they do is call social services and you either get charged or have to go to all this counciling on how to raise your kids. Yes the younger kids have less respect for authority and adults. Today more think they are invincible and know it all. There is not as much consequence sto youth today to make them see how to be responsible. My daughter was one and it took a long time for her to finally come around.
True back when I was young I was driving the tractor or boats and such. Today the laws will charge you if you let them drive a boat on water before 16. Or tractor down the road to the next feild to help with farming.
So they lose on experience.
I use to sit with my kids on a lonely back road and let them drive with sitting next to them and the car just idling in drive. They were thrilled and we never reached speed limits. It was just to let them get the feel of it.
Too bad three young men lost their lives. The kids around there will have a tough end of the year attending funerals. Some grad for them and their final exams.
well there's been more news, alcohol was definately a factor, and a police cruiser clocked them at 160km/h going north on 2nd ave. there's a cenetaph in the middle of the intersection of 2nd and darlington, they lost control trying to get around the cenetaph, hit the curb, the car started into a flip but hit the tree roof first before completeing a flip. end of story.
OUch!!! I'm with ya sherm. When will people learn. ANd you know, In every gas station I went into in the states, there was beer and hard liquor right there. I know a lot of people get thirsty, but at a gas station??? Come on! I do really hope that those kids friends will learn some respect both for cars and for what alcohol can do to a person, and finally not to mix the 2, EVER!
Isn`t American beer mostly water........less alcohol than Canadian beer?
I thought the corner and grocery stores, gas bars selling booze was more than a little strange....
Man 160 km in the town streets. That was a disaster to happen. Such a hame.
Yes I was a wild man when I was young. Once I had kids something changed in me. I became more responsible.
I see these young kids doing stupid stunts and think how much of idots the are. Yet Then I remember I did that when I was young. So I was just as much to blame.
I drove cars on two wheels. I use to do 360's on the highways at hi speeds. Not anymore.
What stopped me was the cops knew who they were chasing. In those days they had to catch you. Today they go after who the tags are registered to.
Anyways the cops started harassing me. Evrytime I got into drive a different vehicle they pulled me over. I be on a date and they pull me over. Then in 1980 I finally built a stock car and raced off and on for three years til I got married and had kids.
At times I miss the track. But I no longer have those driving skills. Never kept them up so tooday I would probally crash.
Those poor boys did not have a chance if they went into the tree roof first at that speed. Such a shame and waste.
