i did a search and really didnt find anything on this and was needing some help.
Back in december i had to replace my AC compresor. it had locked up and would not let the motor turn at all. well when i replaced it i didnt replace the freon at the time since it was winter, but now its warm and i want AC.
well i replaced the Orafice tube and started to recharge the freon and it seems to have very high pressure. the pressure keeps going up, but it doesnt seem to kick the compresor on. im sure im doing somthing wrong just tell me what it is because it is hot down here in the south.
Whenever you have a compressor failure it is recommended and required for compressor warranty to also replace the dryer assembly. also once a system is opened up it is necesary to pump the system down with a vacum pump to as close to 28 hg as possible, check for leak down of the vacum and hold the vacum for a couple of hours to boil out any moisteure in the system. Since these trucks do not have sight glasses you should charge the system using a set of gauges in conjuction with a temp/pressure chart. If you overcharge the system you can lock up the new compressor. You also need to check the compressor literature to find out if the compressor is pre-charged with oil or not. If not and a lot of them aren't, then you need to add the recommended amount of Ester based oil. Failure to do this will also destroy the new compressor or at the least greatly reduce its life span.
agreed with everything here. You need/have to pull a vacume on the system. Add oil and freon. You should always use a manifold gauge set. If you are not looking at the high and low side then you really dont know what's going on with the system.
