Wiring question with pics.
I put a dvd in the head unit and there was sound coming from it through the vehicles speakers. For the meantime I ran the RCA jacks from the head unit to the center console RCA plugs so it would play on the overhead screen(factory). At this point I had not installed the monitors in the headrests. So I contacted kenwood and they said that once you remove the factory radio that it might cancel or make the center console unit useless for the screen. I didn't know this.
So yesterday I removed the center console and was looking at the wiring inside of it.
What I am wanting to try to do is: Tap the power supply for the new headrest monitors to the power supply from the harness that leads into the console. They say to use a 12v source, but I would like to use a switched 12v source so I don't leave the monitors on by accident. Would this maybe blow a fuse when I start or shut off the vehicle? I want to laocate the video wire and power source for the overheadr screen(factory) so I can view that screen also.
I have some picutres and need help finding which wire lead to what and maybe the purpose of them. I know its a lot to ask for, but can't seem to find the wiring diagram for this.
the factory center console audio/video unit control.
old vcr unit.
This is one of the harnesses that I was speaking of above. Does anyone have the color codelocation for these wires.
This is the second harness that leads to the center console.
This harness leads from the glob of them to the top portion of the original audio factory picture above.
And finally this harness comes from the glob to the bottom of the factory audio video which is pictured above. Remember I also have the cig hook up also. which is only the red and black wire.
I know its a lot. To recap:
locate the video wire from the vcr to the factory screen in the overhead unit.
should I use a switched power supply instead of the consistant 12v supply for the new headrest monitors.
almost forgot this is the harness that was in the back of the old vcr unit.
If I were doing this, I would have probably tapped into the remote/power antenna wire, and used it to drive a relay which would power up the headrest monitors. This way they could only be on with the head unit on, and you wouldn't try to pull to much current through any circuit. Manufactures are going to use the smallest wire they can get away with and I suspect you would have a voltage issue trying to use the power from the overhead to power the three monitors.

I wanted to tap into a switched power supply, because I think it would be on a relay already. If not, I will tap into the cig lighter power supply to power the two new monitors.
I am looking for the video source from the bottom harness which would lead to the overhead factory monitor along with its power supply. before the factory monitor would only turn on if the vcr was on.
I hope this makes some sense.
