Last week, I posted a thread about an oil filter adapter I had purchased for my '88 F150. The truck has a '89 FI 460 in it, and there is a 90 degree adapter for the oil filter, which seems to be leaking. Well, I purchased what I thought was the right adapter, but then on closer inspection, I noticed that there are 2 hoses coming off the top of the adapter, which go to a cooler, located in front of the radiator. Now this truck is my hunting truck, and I do a little wheelin around Vegas, but nothing too crazy, and no towing. So I know the best case senario would be to find an adapter like I have with the cooler, but I have not been able to locate one.My question is, given the expected use of the truck, will I harm the motor by switching to this adapter with no cooler. If so, can any one help me locate the adapter that is on the truck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, TR
ok is this for relocating the filter? post a pic of you new adapter if possible.
No it is an adapter to feed engine oil to an external oil cooler.
You should be able to get the oil filter adapter at summitracing.com they have a great selection.
I have the new adapter in hand, I was just wondering if any body new where I might get one that also works with the cooler, or if I change, given how I use the truck, will I harm the motor?
I've seen a few 70's F600 trucks with that adapter on the 429's and no cooler though. . .I can't see there being much difference driving with or without the cooler as long as you are not abusing the motor. And even if you are, just check it more frequently till you get an idea if it needs to be changed sooner than normal
