Has anyone here upgraded to any type of a leaf guard guttering system?
I installed these el cheapo gutter toppers from Home Depot and they suck eggs. The rain water still runs over them and the birds are able to build nests under them.
I got an estimate today from a local gutter company who happens to be the only company in the area that installs the patented leaf guard gutters.
90' of straight guttering with down spouts is going to run $1486.00 with a 20% discount included in that price. Thats about $16.85 per foot. The good thing is, this company offers a lifetime guarranty against clogging, material defects and installation issues such as pulling from the house or sagging. This company has been in business since this system was invented in the late 80's.
I intend to have them installed this summer while I'm on vacation but I was wondering if anyone already has them.
Basically, I'm looking for compelling pros and cons.
I have had two different kinds of leaf guard gutters. Neither worked worth a damn. My problem is pine trees. Pine needles go where no other leaf can go, bunch up, and stop everything up. I have learned to hate trees, and lawns. I finally took the gutters off, and let the rain water the flowers and hedges.jd
I saw something a couple of weeks ago that inrigued me: Leaf guards made out of sturdy foam that is cut to the "K" gutter profile. It fills the entire gutter. Can't remember how much it was, but it was not cheap. Yet it wasn't as much as professionally installed leaf guards.
I have the 1/2 round gutters and the store didn't have that shape. My house gutters are high enough and away from trees so I don't worry about them. The barn, on the other had, is under the neighbors huge maple tree. I clean those gutters in December when I am hanging Christmas lights.
I just have those wire thingies stuck in the downspout hole. Keeps the water flowing well enough until I get on the ladder and clean them out.
