Ever since day one when my grandfather bought this 71 F100 it has sat outside. Under trees mostly. The right side of the bed is worse than the left, but both are pretty rough. Not many rust through holes but the paint is gone. lately I have noticed bubbles where the rust is eating into existing paint that is left.
What recommendations to any of you veterans have on how I can stop this. I'm not at a point where I can get all the body work done and paint it. I just need to clean the rust up.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
The best thing to do is sand blast it untill all the discolored metal is gone and prime it with a urethane primer before doing any body work. If you leave those dark spots were the rust pits were it will come back. Also if you sand blast it yourself I like to use the medium sand because the coarse sand won't do as good a job getting into the small pits.
On mine I used a chemical stripper to take off most of the paint and still used over 1,000 pounds of sand.
