I've got a 1978 F-150 w/manual 4 speed. 1st is granny.
I've never had problems with this tranny, except the usually clutch replacement. And I only did this based on mileage and recommendations from others.
I'm currently rebuilding this pickup and would like to replace the clutch myself. But, how do I tell what tranny I have. And, does this thing come off the vehicle with or without the clutch bellhousing attached. Its got external bolts to attach it to the housing.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Mar-02 AT 08:07 PM (EST)]It's either a BW T-18 or a NP435. They both should unbolt from the bell housing without having to remove the housing off the engine. Just remember to support the tranny first .
The BW will have a cast iron shift tower, the NP will have an aluminum shift tower.
