dead truck

So I'm driving home the other night with my wife, 2 sons, and 2 dogs. It's about 12 and we're WAY out in the country. All of a sudden, the engine just stops. No weird stuff going on on the dash, no check engine light. I try to start it back up and it will run, but as soon as I touch the throttle pedal, it dies. My first thought (keeping it simple of course) is a clogged fuel filter. My buddy came and picked us all up and took us home, Ford on the side of the road. Bummer. Next morning I got a fuel filter and went back and swapped it out. Got in the truck to start it up, no luck. Now the truck won't even start and idle. It just cranks. Any ideas guys? I'm guessing fuel pump, but they're hard to find and a bit pricey. Thanks in advance!

Don't guess, hook up a pressure gauge and see what it's reading.

Blackhull,
What year of you Expy and engine size? Check your IAC valve first, located behind the throttle body. Did you ever dropped your key on hard concrete surface? If you did, the anti-theft chip inside the key could be messed up preventing you from starting.

khangmai,
It's a 2005 w/ the 24V 5.4L Triton. Never dropped the key though. I'll check the IAC valve too. Thanks.

Rodents!

So I took off the fuel pump inlet hose and put it in a bucket, keyed the ignition to "on" and watched a good amount of fuel come shooting out. That eliminated the fuel pump. Then I moved up to the intake to look at the IAC valve. As I was taking the airbox apart, I pulled the air filter out. It looks like a mouse got up in there and chewed a hole in the paper filter. I found a bunch of paper debris in there and vacummed it all out. We pulled out the mass airflow sensor and looked in there. A piece of the paper filter had gotten into it and lodged itself into the open electrode. We pulled out the piece of junk, cleaned the MAS with cleaner and reassembled everything. After that the truck started right up.
