I have a chance to buy a 1997 32V Intech V8
out of a 97 Lincoln Continental it has been hit
by the rear passenger door.I can get the
engine-computer & wiring-& the a/c
for $200 or i can get the whole car for $300
the engine has 100,000 miles on it & it
does not knock or smoke,it sounds good.
I know the guy & he is really hurting for money.
How good are those engines & what was the horsepower?
If the Lincoln engine in question is a 4.6 4v....a great buy! 4.6 2v decent buy. Either way you'd want to get the whole car for all the little wiring and sensor gremlins that pop up when swapping these engines.
Power: 194 kW , 260 HP @ 5,750 rpm; 265 ft lb @ 4,750 rpm
However it makes me wonder, I'm not sure if the Continental has a different engine in it than the Mark VIII, I think it does. I own a '94 Mark VIII and that has one seriously nice engine in it, puts out around 280hp, and can be made into a real sleeper very easily. It's like a luxury Mustang that no one thinks has any power. Only thing I don't like about the engines is having to take 10 minutes to unbolt the cover, lol. The Mark VIII's engine is rather large, even for being a 4.6, its wide. I've seen it put into a '67 Mustang but it takes some cutting. I'm sure it will fit in a truck if it can fit in a '67.
I would go for the whole car, you may want a part or two that might be a pain to get without it. If nothing else you could sell the parts you don't use on eBay for more than $100 easily. The engine looks similar in specs to the Mustang of that year. If nothing else if you decide you don't want it, you can part it out for more money if you have the time.
go for it !!!!!!!!! i just bought a 95 t bird with a 2 valve romeo 4.6 that is a lot of fun , and doesnt smoke etc. for $ 200 bucks . it's so much fun to abuse i've begun to entertain finding a pos , but solid old ford truck to stick it , and the irs , etc. in . i'm looking at a lincoln mark 8 {?} thats a lot like my bird , with a 4 valve dohc that is in excellent shape and everything works , as i believe its one of the 280 horsers stephen is refering too for 350 , and drive it away . got this hair brained idea 'bout shoving it's driveline in this beater , ugly bird in my drive ..................... oh yeah as a result of digging for info if that continenintal is front drive the block is missing a mount pad on one side or the other to make it work in a rear drive application so.... might be a challenge to make it work . good news is all the internals , heads etc. is the same as one from a rear drive so theres another option . find a used block and swap it all .
The 97 Continental does have the 4.6L 32 valve engine. It is slightly lower HP than the Mark VIII. The Continental produces 260 HP while the Mark VIII is 285 to 290 HP. This sounds like a steel.

The front wheel drive unit gives me ideas. Like how about putting the whole thing in the bed. Better weight distribution, etc... Or even, how about an old FWD pickup? How cool would that be?
I have a buddy with a 53 chevy pickup tha has a olds tornado under the hood with f.w.d . I bet you can do a ford ,with a ford .I expect to get blasted for using g.m. as an example since I am new user . But what the heck I dont think everbody on here is that way. you can't learn if you can't listen.
dude i made mention of it in my last reply , but the front wheel drive engine blocks are missing , i.e. it was never cast into it , a motor mount " pad " according " to what info i have stumbled across so fsr . therefore making it a pain in the posterior to make it work . the internals etc , are the same , so you could use everything but the block , and find a rear drive block .
I've seen the engine in the bed before, talk about a head turner! unfourtantly then you have no bed and your engine bay becomes a truck, lol
If you are going that route I think a functional bed is the last thing in mind. Look at some of the Rat trucks. No functional bed to speak of. They are not work trucks. They are fun trucks.
On the other hand, with the front wheel drive unit, just think of how low you can get the rear end while maintaining functionality if there is no differrential to get in the way using the solid front axle transplanted to the rear. With a dropped axle it could drag the running boards and fenders easily using a triangulated 4-bar and air bags and still have room for a full bed floor!!
