Axle code differences
The cod on the door of my '84 says 18 for the axle. I was told this is 3.08 with an open diff. I was under the back so I tried to read the tag on the rear, it says 3L08 (actually it looked like 3L03, but that has to be an 8) Someone else told me that is 3.08 limited slip. Which one is correct? It sure acts like an open diff, but it could just be the clutches are worn out.

Axle code differences
My truck also has a 18 axle tag in the door. I looked in the owners manual and it said it was a 3.08 ratio open differential not limited slip. My truck is a 1990 but the numbers will be the same because your rearend is a 8.8" too.
