My Ranger is a 1994 and i just got it a couple months ago, and i have noticed there is a thump when i give it gas or accelerate fast. could it be my ujoints or something else?
I had a similar problem once with a car of mine and I found out the rubber bushing that dampens the strain on the transmission had seperated and fallen off. Look on the top side of your tranny and there should be a bolt that fastens to the cross member of the chassis. What you might be hearing is the tranny thumping up against the cross member. Worth a look at least.
If you have a 2 piece drive shaft the slip joint probable needs to be cleaned and regressed.Replacing the joints and support bearing would be good idea while you got the DS out.If its the 1 piece DS then pc9123 is on the right path.
I just changed my U-joints. One was bad. Then drained the differential fluid for maintenance, and noticed that the "spider gears" were worn. It turn out that the clunking that I heard when I accelerated came from this area.
