As most of the other's have said already, black is hard to keep clean and all and I mean all surface defects will be noticable from a distance. Stratches, dings, dents, dirt, water spots, oxidation are all extremely magnified on a black vehicle.
I had two white trucks in the past and I have to say white is the most forgiving paint I have known so far. Dirt from everyday driving is well hidden (mud isn't included) and the occassional stratch is hard to notice.
Go to the light colors and don't look black er back.

False. Jeff can tell you how many dings and scratches are on my truck that you guys never see because of the pictures. In person you can't see any of the scratches or dents from 20 feet away.
It's hard to keep clean, yes, but it's the best looking color when kept clean.
Here is a picture of my truck. It's fairly clean here and in decent light. Can you see all the scratches and dings?
What's the resolution of the camera taking the picture and how much has the picture been altered?
It doesn't matter, black shows defects easy and from far away. It's the contrast that makes it more noticable. I know - I had a black car once, and only once.
