A cheap way of locking without welding? Good luck lol You could try to find a used or rebuilt selectable locker.

Mini spools or full spool aren't that expensive. I think under $200 for the full spool and under $100 for the mini-spool . You will have to pay someone to set up the full spool if you can't do it yourself though. The mini-spool bolts in.

If you were thinking about the same effect as welding the spiders anyway, spools are a good bet.

what kind of mud running do you plan to do? If you lock front and rear you won't be able to turn. I run open differentials front and rear and usually do fine. Just my preference of course. The mud pit I race is a horse shoe shape. Spray WD-40 or boot silicone spray around the base of the carb and air cleaner as well as all over the distributor to keep moisture out. Here is a link to one of my runs. Luke bison mud bog - Bing Video

The race is a straight style drag. Was thinking of taking a old set of tires and taking the hot knife to them for some deep lugs was wondering has any one else done this and how does everyone water proof their engine i was thinking of just tarping up the bottom of the engine
