I have recently purchased a 1997 F250 and as luck would have it there is a fuel leak that was not noticeable until I brought it home.
The fuel leak appears to be in the "valley" below everything. I took off a few parts to investigate, but didn't want to dig in too deep without possibly knowing what I was getting myself into. I can see spray coming from below a gold/brass box that 2 blue fuel hose go into and 2 steel fuel lines come out of on the other side (See fancy drawing below). I can't quite see exactly where the leak is. I just see fuel spraying out from under that box.
Is this a known issue? Or possibly easy to fix. I didnt want to take the any of the fuel system apart until I checked with you all to see if there is something I SHOULDN'T do.
Thanks
That yellow box your talking about is your fuel pump, has a large nut on the back side and has 2 washers, one on either side of the banjo as they call it, usually a 1 1/4" combination wrench fits it and it some times needs a little snugging up to stop any leaks that occur, also on the bottom side of the pump there is a weep hole that fuel will also come out of when the pump begins to fail due to worn seals etc..... your gonna have to get an inspection mirror and a real good flash light to determine whether your banjo needs tightening or the pump itself is shot, also the blue hoses coming from the pump to the fuel filter bowl assembly are known to dry out and crack due to engine heat etc... and may need replacing as well... If the pumps shot, I'd do the hoses at the same time... If you do a search theres lots of info on how to change that pump out as it's kinda tricky but definately do-able for the average shade tree mechanic!!

Is there an easy way to tighten the Banjo bolt on the Fuel pump?
I'm out here trying to do it and it just doesnt seem like I have enough room to get at it. I don't need to unmount the turbo and push it back do I?
Anyone know?
I had to take my good sears craftsman 1 1/4" wrench and tweak the handle a little to one side to get it in there...have heard some sockets with the right kind of universal might work as well, all you can do is try, don't get crazy torquing it either, just a good snug!
also on the bottom side of the pump there is a weep hole that fuel will also come out of when the pump begins to fail due to worn seals etc.....
Does any one know what side of the fuel pump the weep hole is on. It appears that the small leak I have is on the passenger side of the pump under the bracket the holds in the pump.
I tightened the banjo bolt and no change to the leak so I fear it is the pump going out.
Passenger side real low. Almost where it goes into the block. At least thats' the only hole I see. I'll take a pic and try to get it posted later tonight.
