Well guys, today is the day I can finally sease to be a lurker and actually post!! My name's Clint and I hang my hat in Kennesaw, Georgia...just north of Atlanta.
By some freak luck, I've managed to scrape together enough money for a down payment and get approved for an '06 F-150 XL from my local dealer!!
I had an '84 F-150 when I was 16 and I had to sell it to move to Atlanta 5 years ago, which I've regreted ever since.
My vehicle situation since then? A broken down '92 Camry that required daily maintenance and could not be entered from the passenger side....no door handle!! Dents, rust, cracked windshielf...the whole shmear. This thing needs to be junked.
Last night the brakes finally gave out for good and today was decision day: repair this piece of junk or try to get something new?
Been shopping on Craigslist for months for an old beater 7th GEN F-series because I knew no dealership would ever approve me.
Well....I just happened to catch a glimpse of a really cool '06 on the lot so I stopped in and damn if they didn't approve me!!!
She comes home tomorrow!! I can't tell y'all what it means to me to be back in an F-series. I'm not a very financially well-off kinda guy...me and my fiancee' are young and just getting started so we just barely make enough to survive, but I'll finally have a vehicle I can be proud of. Can't wait to post pics, but here's one from the dealer website.
Can't wait to meet some friends on here and actually be able to participate in conversation!!
Congratulations on getting your truck. Take good care of it and I'm sure it will serve you well. I've been driving Ford trucks for the past 24 years and just got a new 08 F150XLT about 6 months ago and am having a ball with it.
congrats on the approval man...and welcome to FTE. You couldn't have picked a better truck to get back into.
which motor you got? the 4.2 (V-6) or the 4.6 (v-8)?
take care of your truck, and she'll take care of you for a long time. I've had way way too many F-150's over the years, and the 2006 I just got rid of in April is the best one I've ever had

ahhhhh, shes just got the little 4.2, but honestly i dont do any pulling whatsoever so I mean thats plenty for me.
nothing wrong with that motor...I had a 1998 XL 4x4 with the 8' bed with the 4.2 motor.
stick or auto?
if stick, recommend you don't rev the hell out of it. My 98 got pissed at me after about 30,000 miles of me constantly running 3,500+ RPM, and from me skipping gears during downshifts. Ate about 1qt of oil between changes...but still was reliable and never broke down on me

Interesting, I'll bear that in mind if i ever convert it, but for now its just the basic auto. My only complaint is that it has a cigarette odor in it being a used car....which bums me out. Ive heard a few tricks suggested here and there for removing it, but i guess ill just have to see or find a good detailer.
Nevermind, guys....they told me I'm approved one day, make me drive all the way out to the dealership and sit on my hands for 4 hours and then tell me I'm not approved after all.
Wow....sucky day. I was already getting prepped for a trucker tan and everything. oh well!

Tell them to recheck it? If you are married you can use her income as well.
