I have an 89 350 and she is not starting. I just replaced the plugs and wires today and last month did the fuel pump and changed the fuel filter. I checked the high pressure fuel pump and that seemed to be working. I had it running rather well when I put one of the vacum hoses in a gas tank but I wouldnt stick the hose all the way in the gas just enough to inhale some fumes. Any suggestions on what this could be? Bad injectors? I also put some injector cleaner in the tank. The truck has sat for awhile. Another question does anyone know the firing order. I have looked online and found 13726548 and wondering if that is right
I would drain all of the gas out and refill with some fresh stuff. Next I would purge all of the lines and valves by pulling out the fuel filter and turning the key on to cycle the pumps a couple of times. Make sure that a good amount of gas comes out and that it is a good color.
When i replaced the fuel filter last week i drained all the gas out and what not and I am getting clean gas on top of the engine where you can check the fuel pressure. I might try and see how much pressure I am getting. If that is the issue how could I go about correcting this?
Def check the pressure, I think autozone loans out the guage, it should read 40 psi idle and may fall down to 30 psi when WOT, if you don't have enough pressure, first try replacing the pressure regulator, its the small 2'' around cylinder thing on the driver side fuel rail. If that still doesn't fix it, then your probably looking at one of your low pressure pumps in your fuel tank is shot and your not getting enough fuel flow to your high pressure pump to keep up.
Ok I just replaced the fuel pump in the tank, I replaced the entire fuel pump assembly piece in the tank and that was working when I put it in. I also tested the high pressure fuel pump and that seemed to be working as well. Is the pressure regulator before or after the high pressure fuel pump?
I ended up replacing the high pressure fuel pump and the truck fired right up. She is running like bran new now. Next step is to replace rotted out floor boards. Anyone have any suggestions? Ideas? I was thinking about taking the bench seat out and throwin in a pair of captain chairs just for the fun of it. I am also on the hunt for some type of lift, possibly just blocks and shocks.
