I need help locating the Grounding Strip for the bed of my Ford Super Duty Crew Cab 2007 TD. I have LED lights along with my third brake light for the topper grounded to the bed of the truck. They have worked fine for a year until yesterday coming home from Dallas, TX. along Route 412 in Oklahoma outside of Boise City. Road is very rough in spots. I can only assume that the grounding strap broke or came totally off. The lights are all LED and are very dim when turned on. Today I went out and grounded the bed to the frame and all was fixed. However, I would still like to locate the factory grounding strap for the bed and fix it permanently. I have located the front cab strap, but still can't find the rear one. Thanks for any help!
I would look right there around the body mounts, probably front of the bed on the pass side. This is the closest to the battery in a gas engine so it's where I would expect the stock wire to be. The thin flat braid is fairly small, you might as well upgrade the ground to 4ga while your playing with it.
Thank you for the response. I have checked near the body mounts and still don't see anything. I'm starting to wonder if the truck does not have a grounding strap. I don't see any evidence that one was anywhere. If it had broke, I would think the other half would still be there. In the past I had a 99 Ford SD extra cab that had a grounding strap for the bed, located near the gas filler. Both trucks are/where diesels with dual batteries. Could there be some other way the bed is grounded? Like I said, all the lights worked excellent, until I traveled down the rough road for about 80 miles. Do you think it is the bed mounting bolts that perform this grounding?
